Ministry to Adoptive Families

 The goals of the Ministry to Adoptive Families are:

  1. To help the adopted children stay connected to their identity.
  2. To bring the adoptive families together frequently to have fellowship and open the opportunity to share their experiences with each other.
  3. To help families with any problems or concerns related to raising their adopted children.
  4. To teach the adoptive families and their children about the culture, language, history, religion, holidays, cooking, geography, braiding, ethnic groups, and a host of other items related to Ethiopia.

To accomplish the above stated objectives, we will have a monthly gathering at our Church. The programs typically last between 1 ½  to 2 hours.  Any family who has or is planning to adopt from Ethiopia is welcome! 

In each gathering we will offer the following:

  • A class and discussion for adults- including Q & A sessions.  In this class we will invite different speakers from all over the United States.
  • There will also be class for all children who are older than 4 years.  There will be a childcare for all other children.
  • There will also be a refreshment and fellowship time.  Once in a while, depending on your interest, we will also have the delicious Ethiopian dinner.

Fees – $25 per family.  Depending on the number of participant in the program, we expect that this money will cover the cost for:

  • Transportation, food, hotel for the guest speaker as well as compensation for his/her time
  • Custodian who need to clean the church and make it ready for next day worship service
  • Stationary
  • Refreshments
  • Coordination of the program and all other costs related to this service

On Saturday November 21, 2009, we held our first dinner and fellowship for American families who have adopted Ethiopian children. 

We typically have events for adoptive families every other month.

There are over 100 families in the State of Indiana who have adopted, or are in the process of adopting children from Ethiopia.
